Painting - A Mother's Sorrow
A Mother’s Sorrow- Medium: Acrylic
In her portrayal of Gerard Sekoto’s painting of Steve Biko, the artist has digitally printed some of Gerard’s paintings and transferred (not glued) and buried them beneath the paint; an action signifying that even the dark hours bring glory and colour to life.
She has undertaken to acknowledge a legend by recognising the father of contemporary South African Black Art. Gerard Sekoto 1913 – 1993.
Having known Steve Biko as one of our customers in King Williams Town she felt the need to paint something that related to Gerard Sekoto; Steve Biko and the sorrow suffered by Steve Biko’s mother.
