Beggar Boy, 2019

Mixed Media painting on canvas in a black frame 76cm x 51cm

While the artist, Tamsanqa Mnkani was living on the streets he had to stay alive because that was his only home and he had to swallow his pride and ask for money and become a beggar. He felt that he was exposed to other people like a dog. For his wrong doings he had to face the risks of physical, emotional, social, and cognitive violation because he was in need of intervention that appropriately addressed his needs in the context of his environment.

Tamsanqa has now built upon the positive survival skills that he developed as a result of street life. He also felt compelled, through his art, to explore the causes and consequences of this growing phenomenon.
